HISTORY

Pignose was established in 1969 is by Richard Edlund and Wayne Kimbell for a portable, battery-powered guitar amplifiers, as well as AC-powered practice amps and guitars.

Richard Edlund and Wayne Kimbell were partners doing graphics and photography for the Rock & Roll trade from about ’68-’69. Richard was inspired by a 5watt amplifier at Pacific Radio and made the first Pignose amp in an English Leather cedar men’s fragrance box.

Legendary 7-100

In 1973, the Pignose portable transistor amplifier was introduced at the Summer NAMM under the tagline “Legendary Pignose.” Weighing only 5 pounds and measuring 9x6x4 inches, it brought portability to electric guitarists. Powered by six AA batteries, the 5-inch speaker delivers approximately 3W RMS (5W peak) output, enabling musicians to play anywhere—at home, backstage, in a car, or on the street. This innovation set a new trend in portable music equipment that remains influential today.

The Legendary Pignose has established itself as an industry standard, with recent additions of self-powered mini guitars to its lineup.
