Yamaha YCB623S

Nearly 30 years have passed since the launch of the acclaimed YCB-822 tuba. The knowledge and technology acquired during this period has finally borne fruit in extraordinary new instruments that represent the Yamaha ideal.

After thoroughly examining the complex relationship between the player and the instrument, a completely revised layout delivers functional and playing improvements that are truly astonishing. From the moment you pick up the instrument, it becomes one with you, allowing you to concentrate fully on what's most important: the music itself.

About
Yamaha YCB623S Tuba C
Floating leadpipe
The "floating" leadpipe is not welded to the bell, leaving it free to vibrate naturally and contribute to the instrument's quick response. The angle of the leadpipe and the general layout of the instrument body have also been revised so that the instrument can be held comfortably with the left arm while the fingers of the right hand easily reach the pistons. No unnecessary strain is placed on the body, so breathing is much smoother and easier than in less refined designs.
Multi-nozzle receiver
The mouthpiece receiver has a unique design that accepts American and European mouthpieces without the need to use an adapter. * Musicians can use their favorite mouthpieces without worrying about compatibility.
Lightweight material body
The thickness of the body material, from the bell to the upper bow, is lighter than normal to improve response and sound. * Due to the use of a lighter material to achieve the desired response and sound, the instrument must be handled with care.
Flat curve protection (plate)
By making the curve protection flat, the musician can more easily feel the resonance of the instrument through the legs, which results in less discomfort when holding the instrument for long periods of time. In addition, the reinforcement plate is wider than normal, which makes it more effective in protecting the instrument against impacts. * Due to the use of a lighter material to achieve the desired response and sound, the instrument should be handled with care.
Body design
Every aspect of this tuba has been refined to achieve the best tone and ease of playing. From the shape of the tubes to the thickness of the material, every detail of conventional tuba design has been re-examined and refined to achieve a new level of Yamaha tuba performance. Variations in tube thickness and curves have been made as smooth as possible and the simplest, most direct form of twisting has been adopted to ensure smooth airflow, as well as guaranteeing fast response and superior sound quality. The YCB-623 offers consistent sound quality throughout, which makes it ideal for playing in orchestras, while minimizing fatigue on the player
Water key on the third pump
A water key has been added to the bypass pipe of the third pump to facilitate quick draining while playing. It eliminates the need to put the instrument down and remove the third piston and allows the player to concentrate on the music and play with greater confidence.
Second main tuning pump
The YBB-623 and YCB-623 are the first tubas in the world to include a second main tuning pump. This provides a wider tuning range and solves several common problems, such as having to open the main pump too wide in high summer temperatures or the tuning getting too low and out of reach in the winter months. The second main tuning pump can be adjusted at the same time as playing and allows precise adjustments to be made to the tuning even when none of the pistons are pressed.
Adjustable thumb ring
The adjustable thumb ring provides much greater grip comfort and fingering freedom. The thumb ring is larger and can be adjusted over a wider range than on previous models. It can be positioned at a height and angle to suit every musician. The high-strength base and screw guarantee maximum strength.
Metal piston knobs
These large, contoured piston knobs provide a fine-tuned feel for smooth, effortless operation. The pistons are also arranged to match the curve of the player's hand, minimizing fatigue on the arms and body.
Ventilated pistons
Ventilation holes in the pistons keep the pressure in the tube constant, so the tuning pumps can be operated smoothly without having to press on the pistons, which makes it easier to make adjustments while playing.
Low resistance felts
The red felts on the pistons are the same as those used, and which are a much-loved feature, on Yamaha's Custom tubas. The felts contribute to a smooth feel as well as defined transitions between notes.
Nozzle supplied (BB-69D2)
The new mouthpiece, specially designed for the YBB/YCB-623, has a slightly curved funnel-shaped interior and a deep cup for a symphonic sound. The relatively thinner rim, combined with a throat that is not excessively large, provides easy control even with a large tuba, while the reduced weight improves efficiency and response.
